Nike Northwoods

A series of (12) rugs were made for the Nike Northwood. Graphic imagery supplied depicted the NIKE brand typography and slogan. Eye catching design based around the Nike trainer, the footprint converse rubber sole plus the iconic jumping Jordan outline featured in some of the designs all tied together with a monochromatic colour scheme.

Rug designs are established, samples are approved and production begins. Designs are scaled up and drawn onto a stretched canvas, a tufted outline starts the tufting and all the colours are tufted by hand. Think “paint by numbers” but on a grander and more sophisticated scale. Once all colours are completed, the canvas is taken off the tufting frame and ready for finishing. A latex and cotton scrim adheres the yarns to its backing and each rug is sheared and to offer a consistent pile height.
